Far from complete, haphazard in its coverage (especially of books), inconsistent in format, together with quite a few errors, and largely unedited, Literary Writings is just sometimes helpful for identifying periodical contributions (especially of minor authors) that aren’t indexed elsewhere. Confusingly organized, with quite a few errors, badly dated, and largely superseded by writer, subject, and interval bibliographies, LHUS is now principally helpful as a guide to older scholarship. The volume as an entire, however, would profit from an announcement of scope and insurance policies governing the collection of scholarship and writers.
